Checkout Procedures:
Kindergarten and First Grade Students:
Students may check out one book for one week. The library books may be exchanged everyday during open checkout time, providing the classroom teacher gives permission. An overdue book must be returned or replaced before another book may be checked out.
Second Grade Students:
Students may check out two books for two weeks. The books may be exchanged weekly during library class or during open checkout time.
An overdue book must be returned or replaced before another book may be checked out.
Third through Sixth Grade Students:
Students may check out three books for two weeks. The books may be exchanged weekly during library class or during open checkout time. An overdue book must be returned or replaced before another book may be checked out.
Open Checkout Time:
All students, with classroom teacher permission, may come to the library to exchange library books every morning from 9:00 am to 9:30 am. Afternoon checkout is from 3:00 pm to 3:20 pm, from Monday through Thursday.
Lost or Damaged Books:
Books which cannot be found by the end of the school year, or before transferring from the school, must be replaced. A replacement fee may be paid or a newly purchased book may be used as a replacement.
Replacement fee for a hardback book is $20.00 or another hardback book.
Replacement fee for a paperback book is $7.00 or another paperback book.
Damaged books are replaced using the same replacement policy as a lost book.
Donated Books:
Ursa Major Librarian is happy to accept donations and will incorporate into library catalog according to curriculum needs.
Challenged Books:
If your child checks out a book which you feel strongly should not be available in an elementary library, you may request a reconsideration for the book. The Ursa Major Librarian, Ms. Jones, has a Request for Reconsideration form. You may discussion your concerns with Ms. Jones. If you wish to continue a reconsideration request, the form and a copy of the challenged book will be forwarded to the Challenged Book Committee. The committee will then discuss and make a determination for availability of that book. The determination by this committee will be effective for all schools in the Anchorage School District.
